I Found The Light

Commissioned and premiered by the Staples High School Music Department, "I Found The Light" is a winter holiday piece on poetry by Emily Garber.

It is scored for high-school-level choir and a mixture of orchestra and band. It prominently features a mezzo soloist and contains many other small solo lines for diverse voice-types of the choir.

Program Note:

“I Found The Light” paints in music and poetry a girl walking through a dark, winter forest on the longest night of the year. As snow falls, lights fall with it, and she follows these home, where warmth and joy await. She comes to realize on this journey that she is not the only one heading home through these woods, and in that knowledge she finds the meaning of the winter holidays: All of us, together, following the same lights home.
